Hydrilla is commonly known as native elodea, and makes for an excellent alternative to those who live in areas where elodea is not permitted. While the stem and leaves are slightly finer, it is otherwise very similar to Elodea in its growth habits and requirements. A cold water plant, it requires very little light to flourish.
