How Much Gold Pearl Gravel Do I Need?

The amount of substrate required depends on the length and width of your aquarium and how deep you want the gravel bed to be.

A shallow decorative layer requires less gravel, while planted aquariums normally benefit from a deeper substrate so plants have enough depth to establish their roots.

Larger aquariums may require several 4.5kg bags to achieve even coverage.

Preparing Gold Pearl Gravel

Aqua Natural Gold Pearl is supplied triple washed, but rinsing it before use is still recommended to remove any loose fines created during transport and handling.

1. Place a manageable amount of gravel into a clean bucket.
2. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
3. Gently stir the gravel while rinsing.
4. Do not use soap, detergent or household cleaners.
5. Add the rinsed gravel evenly across the aquarium base.
6. Fill the aquarium slowly to minimise disturbance.

A small amount of temporary cloudiness may still occur after filling and will normally settle or be removed by aquarium filtration.

Maintaining Gold Pearl Gravel

During regular water changes, use an aquarium gravel cleaner to remove fish waste, uneaten food and other debris from between the stones.

Take extra care around planted areas so established roots are not unnecessarily disturbed.
