Seachem Tanganyika Buffer is a specialised blend of carbonate salts designed to replicate the mineral‑rich, highly alkaline conditions Lake Tanganyika cichlids thrive in. It increases alkalinity and carbonate hardness (KH), improving buffer capacity to help prevent dangerous pH swings in hard‑water African cichlid aquariums. Formulated to maintain a high pH of 9.0–9.4 (depending on dose), it’s ideal for Tanganyikan communities where stable, elevated pH is essential for health, behaviour, and long‑term success.​

For best replication of Lake Tanganyika conditions, Seachem suggests pairing it with Cichlid Lake Salt and Cichlid Trace. If you need a lower target pH (7.8–8.4), Seachem points to Malawi/Victoria Buffer, either alone or blended with Tanganyika Buffer to fine‑tune results. Increase pH gradually and avoid large, sudden parameter shifts for sensitive livestock.
