Activated carbon is carbon that has been treated in such a way that creates a large number of tiny pores, greatly increasing its surface area. This massive surface area allows it to adsorb a large volume of material, making it useful for removing pollutants from both air and water.

REMOVES CHLORINE AND CHLORAMINES

Aqua One PremiumCarb is an Activated Carbon that is phosphate free and can be used in all types of filtration systems. Carbon, or activated carbon, is used as a chemical filtration media. It helps to remove many organic and inorganic materials dissolved in tank water -- it keeps the aquarium water clear, and removes odours.

Aqua One PremiumCarb is manufactured using the highest quality raw materials. As a result it is capable of quickly and efficiently removing dissolved organics and waste from your aquarium water. During its production the carbon is steamed, which enlarges the pore size and surface area. This process is referred to as activation.

The microscopic pores in Aqua One PremiumCarb eventually fill with waste. Once they do, they begin overflowing and releasing some of the waste previously absorbed back into your aquarium. It is therefore essential you remove the carbon once it has been used.

Aqua One recommends every 3-4 weeks all of the carbon should be removed, disposed of carefully and replaced.
