Yabby's in fish tanks are becoming very popular as they have vibrant colours and have an interesting development process of shedding their shell.

As yabbies grow they shed their shell and at this time can be vulnerable and eaten by other tank inhabitants. If for any reason yabbies lose a limb, these will be regrown over the next few moults.  As yabbies are also escape artist, it is important to make sure that your tank is always covered.  It is not uncommon to hear that a yabby has gone missing only to turn up in a different room than your fish tank.
