Orange Venezuelan Corydoras 3cm (Corydoras venezuelanus)

Orange Venezuelan Corydoras are colourful, peaceful bottom-dwelling catfish with warm orange-bronze colouring, a darker metallic flank and the active, social behaviour Cory keepers love. At approximately 3cm when sold, these young Corys are an excellent choice for established community and planted aquariums.

Like other Corydoras catfish, Orange Venezuelan Corys are social fish and should not be kept alone. A group of at least six is recommended, with larger groups often producing more confident and natural behaviour.

Aquarium Setup

Water Conditions

Orange Venezuelan Corydoras are relatively adaptable, but stable conditions and good water quality are more important than trying to achieve one exact number. A temperature of approximately 20–26°C and pH around 6.5–8.0 suits most properly acclimated aquarium stock.

Maintain good oxygenation, appropriate filtration and regular partial water changes. Corydoras may occasionally swim quickly to the surface and gulp air before returning to the bottom. This is a normal behaviour associated with their ability to supplement oxygen uptake by breathing atmospheric air.

Feeding Orange Venezuelan Corydoras

Orange Venezuelan Corys are omnivores and should receive their own food rather than being expected to survive on leftovers from other fish.

Offer quality sinking pellets, wafers and other suitable catfish foods, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia or appropriately sized worms. Feed enough that food reaches the aquarium floor where the Corys can eat without having to compete excessively with mid-water fish.

Corydoras are useful scavengers, but they are not aquarium cleaners and still require a balanced diet of their own.

Tank Mates

The Orange Venezuelan Cory is an excellent community fish when housed with other peaceful species that enjoy similar water conditions. Suitable tank mates can include many tetras, rasboras, danios, peaceful dwarf fish and other non-aggressive community species.

Avoid large predatory fish, highly territorial bottom dwellers or aggressive species that may repeatedly harass them. Most importantly, provide other Corys of the same type so they can display their natural social behaviour.
