Black beard algae is a type of red algae that plagues freshwater and marine aquaria. It is commonly referred to as Brush algae because of its soft, fuzzy, hair-like filaments that grow attached to solid surfaces and are extremely difficult to get rid of or treat.

Even though not directly harmful to fish, Black beard algae is harmful to your plants as they reduce or hinder the photosynthesis process of your plants.
